I'm interested in getting a Seamaster Chrono which has a very faded (nearly no colour or markings left) bezel insert. Even some of the luminescent hour dots on the dial have been lost.
Has anyone else had a problem with a badly faded bezel on a Seamaster pro 300, mine went very faint within a couple of years and that was not through excessive sunlight or diving etc, just everyday use in London. I think any alleged concerns about fading are due to the use of a metal bezel, as apposed to ceramic which is said to be impervious to fading, rather than any real world issues. Meaning, the bezel will fade eventually, but not for 10-20 years. They would also likely want to replace those faded sundial hands as well. The only other option is to hunt around for a used bezel on forums or EBay that is in better shape. But that will likely be more frustrating than it is worth in terms of savings.
My circa '95 SMP 2551.80 has a very faded bezel and patina on the dial. The seconds hand tip is a nice creamy almost peach color. I love the look as it adds character and shows that this watch was really worn. Let’s find out. This is my Omega Seamaster ref. 2531.80. I like the faded bezel insert, but I agree that the original watch posted above is a mess. Not only is it beat up, it been "refinished" and done improperly, so what you could do is buy a new, complete bezel, and then put the faded insert into the new bezel if you like the faded look.
